About this piece

Dark Flame is a one-of-a-kind ʻopihi (Hawaiian limpet) shell bolo tie. A single ink-dark flame rises through the cream face of this ʻopihi. Clasp-less on metallic gold with cowrie-shell tips. The shell was gathered by hand in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, then cleaned, tumbled and hand-polished on the lapidary wheel. The cord is metallic gold braided leather, roughly 36–40″ adjustable, finished with cowrie shell tips. The slide is clasp-less — wet-drilled, with no metal touching the shell — so the cord simply slides to adjust. $145, in stock; ships free in the US with a hand-signed provenance card.

How it wears & care

Keep the leather cord dry and put the bolo on last, after lotion, sunscreen or cologne has dried. Wipe the shell with a soft dry cloth and store it flat or hanging somewhere cool and dry.
