About this piece

‘Starseed Look’ ʻOpihi is a one-of-a-kind ʻopihi (Hawaiian limpet) shell bolo tie. An ʻopihi with a bright, seed-like center that seems to glow from within, on a red cord. Truly one of a kind. The shell was gathered by hand in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, then cleaned, tumbled and hand-polished on the lapidary wheel. The cord is red leather, 38″ adjustable, finished with silver-tone metal tips. The slide is clasp-less — wet-drilled, with no metal touching the shell — so the cord simply slides to adjust. The shell measures 52 × 45 mm. $145, in stock; ships free in the US with a hand-signed provenance card.

How it wears & care

Keep the leather cord dry and put the bolo on last, after lotion, sunscreen or cologne has dried. Wipe the shell with a soft dry cloth and store it flat or hanging somewhere cool and dry.
