About this piece

Horseshoe ‘Opalized Look’ ʻOpihi is a one-of-a-kind ʻopihi (Hawaiian limpet) shell bolo tie. An ʻopihi with a soft, opal-like sheen on a green cord. A slightly shorter piece that wears beautifully on a smaller frame or a younger wearer. The shell was gathered by hand in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, then cleaned, tumbled and hand-polished on the lapidary wheel. The cord is green leather, 30″ adjustable, finished with brass-tone metal tips. The slide is clasp-less — wet-drilled, with no metal touching the shell — so the cord simply slides to adjust. The shell measures 45 × 40 mm. $185, in stock; ships free in the US with a hand-signed provenance card.

How it wears & care

Keep the leather cord dry and put the bolo on last, after lotion, sunscreen or cologne has dried. Wipe the shell with a soft dry cloth and store it flat or hanging somewhere cool and dry.
